When did you gain the interest in mental coaching?
When I was a young athlete I was fascinated by those athletes who always were able to perform their best when it really counted. Also during my studies which I financed working as a tennis coach, I always put great emphasis on the right attitude and effort in my players in order for them to reach the most success. After multiple years as a general manager of a tourist and travel company I started to more and more frequently ask myself: "Do I really want to do this?" And of course also: "What do I want to do?" Those are exactly the key questions that I ask my athletes and my clients, too.

For me the answer is yes! I want to support athletes on their way to success, to build their confidence and to help them pose the right questions to themselves. This is what my heart tells me to do!

Why do athletes choose to work with you?
First and foremost this is a matter of trust. The athletes realize that I always give 100% for them. Furthermore, I am able to communicate with them in their own special way. In addition to that we work a lot at the place where athletes feel the most comfortable - on the court: the Tennis, Football or Golf court. On the court we work individually very goal and competition oriented. Some athletes really appreciate my international experience that I draw for example from many long visits to the USA. In essence, 100% commitment, honesty and availability around the clock is why athletes want to work with me.

Why do you like to work with international athletes as well, especially with athletes from South America? What is the challenge for you?
I know and appreciate their mentality a great deal. Moreover, I speak their language and I can put myself in their position. They come to Europe, Germany or England and immediately face huge expectations and pressure. For them everything is new: new culture, new language, new mentality, new surroundings and a new media world. For them it is therefore a great challenge, to concentrate on soccer and to perform on the highest level. I can help them adjust to those new circumstances and help them to focus on their work!

How do athletes get to know you?
First and foremost they know me through recommendations. I frequently visit ATP and ITF tennis tournaments and also league games. Furthermore, I give lectures, hold speeches or write in magazines.

What are the greatest challenges for you?
I want to help talented athletes that so far were not able to realize their potential, reach their full potential.

Where do you work?
Usually I work right at the athlete’s practice facility. I travel sometimes with tennis players to their tournament which means that I am quite a big traveler.

In which languages do you coach?
I coach in German, English, Spanish and Dutch.

How do you manage to stay balanced and where do you draw your energy from?
My family is a big source of support. My wife Els and my daughter Hannah give me the necessary peace and stability.

What are your greatest moments of success?
The greatest moment of success is for me to give young men and women new life perspectives through the sport.

What are your goals?
To uncover an athlete’s true potential together with the athlete. It is a dream of mine to one day win Wimbledon with one of my athletes or to accompany a Bundesliga soccer player on his way to the national team.
